Both Canon EOS Rebel T6i and T6s are capable of producing great images with a lot of details. Both these cameras are at the top of the cameras for beginners range. The main difference between Canon EOS Rebel T6i and T6s is that Canon EOS Rebel T6i is designed for novices and EOS Rebel T6s is designed for more experienced users. Although both cameras target different audiences, they are identical in most of their features.

Canon EOS Rebel T6i Review 

Sensor  & Image Quality:

The Canon EOS Rebel T6i houses a 24 megapixel APS-C sensor that is powered by a DIGIC 6 processor. The size of the processor is 22.3 x 14.9 mm. The maximum resolution that can be shot is 6000 x 4000 pixels which provide great detailed images and larger print sizes. The supported aspect ratio is 1:1, 4:3, 3:2 and 16:9.The ISO sensitivity range of this camera is 100 – 12800. There is a feature to expand the ISO to 25600 which can be used for very low light situations.  The images can be saved in high quality RAW format so it can be post-processed according to the needed format.

Auto Focus System:

It also includes a 19 point phase AF system.  When the viewfinder is being used, the AF system creates the images in it. The AF system can be chosen by the camera itself out of 19 points, or can be manually set using single point or Zone AF modes. Zone AF has 5 groups of points to choose from, and the single point lets us chose from all 19 point individually. When live view feature is used, the images are viewed on the screen. The EOS Rebel T6i has a new Hybrid CMOS AF III system which comes with face detection, Tracking AF and flexi zone modes). Continuous AF is available for video and also to pre-focus on images.

Lens:

This camera supports a Canon EF/EF-S lens mount. There are about 250 lenses that are capable of supporting this mount. The Canon EOS Rebel T6i is not able to provide image stabilization, but there are about 83 lenses that come with this feature. The EOS Rebel T6i does not come with weather sealing, but there are 45 lenses that come with weather sealing.

Shooting Features:

The EOS Rebel T6i can shoot at a continuous rate of 5 frames per second. This rate is good enough for sports photography.

Screen and Viewfinder:

The screen of this camera is Clear View II TFT with a size of three inches and a resolution of 1040 dots. It is also touch-sensitive. It is capable of supporting and aspect ratio of 3:2. The viewfinder is an optical viewfinder which uses a penta mirror design. This is less expensive than the penta prism design cameras found in professional DSLRs. The tradeoff is the penta prism gives a more realistic image of the shot than the penta mirror.  95% of the image that is going to be captured can be seen through the viewfinder. The screen with its articulating joint can be viewed in a variety of angles. Bright light on the screen does cause reflections, but images can be viewed. In the live view, the screen can be used to trip the shutter as well as set the AF points. The vari-angle screen allows the user to see key settings from different angles.

File Storage and Transfer (or Connectivity):

The Rebel T6i comes with Wi-Fi and NFC, which enables the camera to connect with devices like smartphones. It can also transfer images from one camera to another with the use of just touching the NFC logos. Connecting the camera to NFC-enabled devices is easy. Connecting non-NFC phones is also easy as we only need to enter one-time password. This will enable features like shutter, aperture and sensitivity control remotely via the phone itself. There is a light to indicate when Wi-Fi is active.

Special Features:

Settings can be adjusted using the buttons available on the camera or with the use of the touch screen.

Dimensions and Weight:

This camera is not solid as many of the other professional DSLRs. But it is durable with the use of fiberglass, polycarbonate and aluminum alloy on the body. The live view and video mode both have servo autofocus capabilities. The continuous autofocus is used to pre-focus images as well as in video mode. The screen is very responsive. The quick and main menus can be controlled by touch and  pinch zoom can be used to check the sharpness of the image. The viewfinder has a sensor to detect when the camera is close to the eye. This sensor then automatically turns off the display. The screen is very clear unless it is exposed to very bright conditions.  The screen can be used in various angles for creative shooting. Touch shutter feature can be used to focus and release the shutter with a tap on the screen.  The viewfinder is also equipped to display the electronic level. 

File Storage and Transfer (or Connectivity):

Wi-Fi and NFC can be used to connect the camera with other devices. This can be done in order to transfer images and also control the camera remotely from a smartphone.

Special Features:

The camera has an external microphone port for better audio recordings but does not contain a port for headphones. Another special feature of the camera is that the electronic level which indicates if the horizon is tilted or not. Wi-Fi active mode can be viewed on top LCD plate. The Camera can be remotely controlled by a smartphone via Wi-Fi. Many important camera features can also be controlled remotely.

Dimensions and Weight:

The camera also has a comfortable grip. The EOS Rebel T6s can be easily carried for long periods of time even when lenses are mounted. For an SLR, the Rebel T6s  is small.

Canon EOS Rebel T6i and T6 – Summary

Both cameras are comfortable in the hand, and user-friendly. Settings are a tap away and has been designed in an easy to use way. We also can zoom into an image and check its sharpness. The vari-angle screen enables creative shooting and the screen can be viewed in various angles. The downside of the Rebel T6i is that the optical viewfinder shows the same image even when some of the settings like exposure have been changed. The Rebel T6i does not come with an electronic level to determine if the horizon is straight and the viewfinder only shows 95% of the captured screen which could add an unwanted background to the edges.

The Canon EOS Rebel T6s has a secondary LCD and a quick control dial. The Electronic level is also a great feature so we know that the horizon is straight. The touch control with a combination of buttons gives great control over the camera. The downside of this camera is the continuous shooting rate of 5 frames per second, and the 95% coverage could end up with an unwanted background. As a conclusion, this is a great camera for inexperienced photographers, the touch control combined with buttons gives great control. The image quality is also great; composed of detail and attractive colors.
