Wright – Meaning and Usage

Wright refers to a profession. A wright is a maker or builder. This term generally refers to a worker skilled in the manufacture, especially of wooden objects. Words like playwright (a person who writes plays), shipwright (a person who builds ships), wheelwright (a person who builds or repairs wooden wheels), etc. are derived from this word. Unlike its homophones, wright is not very much used in the modern context. It can be called as an obsolete noun since it is no longer in usage.

But Wright exists in the language as a surname or family name. For example, the Wright brothers Orville refer to the famous American aviation pioneers, Orville Wright and Wilbur Wright.
