Also known as the Golden City, Jaisalmer is situated in Thar Desert, the largest desert in India. It was founded in 1156 by Rajput king Maharawal Singh. The buildings of the city are made of sandstone and they are golden in color giving it its name. Tourists come here to see the magnificent architecture and the arts and crafts of Jaisalmer. The city was developed with walls surrounding it thus making it look like a fortress.
